Fields of clinical practice for which this course is applicable
Concepts and tools learned in this course will have immediate clinical applicability for a variety of clinical settings and with various patient populations.
Pre-requisites
A practice of yoga for at least 1 year (minimum once / week) and / or having followed the course "Introduction to medical yogatherapy" is strongly recommended.
Objectives of course
This 2 day Medical Yoga Therapy (MYT) course is for all health care professionals (HCPs) who are interested in yoga as a therapeutic modality. Prior personal yoga experience and having attended Module 1 of the MYT course series are strong assets but not absolutely necessary.
HCPs with knowledge of anatomy, and priorexperience in observing and evaluating posture and movement will reap the most benefit from this course.

What is Medical Yoga Therapy (MYT)? - brief overview
Review the Bio-psycho-social-spiritual (BPSS) model used in MYT
Techniques and practices to rebalance the CNS (Pranayama, Yoga Nidra)
Asanas (Yoga poses and movements)
Asana as an evaluation & treatment tool
Alignment in the poses
Anatomy as it relates to asana
Functional applications of the poses
Precautions and contraindications of the poses
Case Studies
At the end of this course, participants will :
Know what Medical Yoga Therapy (MYT) is.
Understand the BPSS model used in MYT.
Understand how to use pranayama and Yoga Nidra to rebalance the CNS.
Have learnt some fundamental asanas (yoga poses).
Understand basic principles of using asanas as an evaluation & treatment tool.
Know the precautions and contraindications of asanas.
Understand the importance of breath as part of the asana practice.
Be able to integrate some MYT tools into their own particular health care environment and with varying patient populations.

Dress code
Please wear comfortable clothes for yoga exercises.
Pre-readings and a survey will be emailed two weeks prior to the scheduled training date.
